Justin and I spent our 3 day weekend down in the Sierras. During our leisurely drive through Yosemite, we stopped at Lembert Dome, which is just east of Tuolemne Meadows. We took about an hour to scramble up the granite face to the top and were encouraged to head back to the car as a rain cloud above us started dripping. We had a tent site at French Camp near Tom's Place off of Route 395 and made it before dark. We set up the tent and headed to bed right away in preparation for our 3:30 am wake up call! The next morning, we hopped in the car and drove south on 395 before turning onto Route 168 to take us to South Lake. The brown bear we saw along side the road was enough to get my heart pumping! The sun rose about 15 minutes after we started on the trail towards Bishop Pass. In addition to the beauty of the mountains, we saw a HUGE marmot, many gorgeous lakes, glaciers, and a few people. After making it to the pass at about 9:30, we head south off the trail to climb Mt. Agassiz on the large talus all the way up. We made it to the summit (about 13,900 feet) just in time for lunch. It might possibly have been the best lunch spot ever. The weather was perfect - the temperature was about 70 degrees, not a breath of wind, and, as you can see in the pictures, blue sky! It was well worth the early morning wake up and tired feet at the end of the day!
